Finding Your Lane
Drive with Purpose
Life is full of analogies, but one of my favorites is driving and how it mirrors our journey through life.
Over the last eight years, I’ve spent a lot of time behind the wheel, and it hit me: while we are all traveling somewhere, our destinations, routes, and speeds are completely different. The roads we take and the pace we set. They’re unique to each of us, shaped by our individual journeys.
Here’s the thing, though—many of us spend our days on autopilot. I get it. With all the decisions we have to make, autopilot is comforting. It’s predictable, it keeps us from overthinking, and we can conserve energy. But autopilot doesn’t move us forward. It keeps us in the same loop, constantly missing our exit.
Traffic Jam: Decision Fatigue
Have you ever parked your car and taken your foot off the gas because you just can’t go any further? Even the smallest decision feels exhausting, and you just don’t care enough to make another one. That’s decision fatigue, and it’s a lot like being stuck in traffic. You’re surrounded by noise, frustration and occasionally anger.
For me, decision fatigue looked like overcommitting to things that didn’t serve me, saying yes when I wanted to say no, and constantly reacting to life instead of proactively making decisions that benefited me. Because I wasn’t intentional, I was drained and far from the purpose and clarity I craved.
The Roadblocks
Ever tried to switch lanes, only to be blocked by a car cruising along like they own the road—no consideration and totally oblivious to everyone else? ANNOYING right?! That’s exactly how I felt in my life—stuck behind something that just wouldn’t budge.
My job, though stable, felt stifling. My goals seemed so out of reach because I kept choosing stability over my dreams. And don’t get me wrong—stability is important. But deep down, I knew I was driving the same road simply because it was familiar. It wasn’t taking me anywhere new or meaningful.
The hardest part? was answering the one question that brought tears to my eyes, and it may do the same for you.

U-Turn
Later that night, after getting the kids ready for bed, I sat on the couch with my husband and shared what had been on my heart. I didn’t like the direction I was headed.
Since then, I have been intentional about having an active role in the decisions that impact my future. I constantly pray that I’m following God’s will, and I give myself permission to put my hazards on or pull over when I need a minute. It’s ok if others are passing me by (a lesson for another day).
Driving with Intention
If you live in the DMV and commute to work, you know what it means to drive with intention—We got places to be! 🚙💨
But here’s the thing about the life part: I don’t necessarily have the entire destination mapped out. Instead, I trust that I’ll get instructions as I go. Just like a GPS, God has the entire route and destination planned for us. He gives us one instruction at a time to ensure we follow and trust His guidance.
Time to Reflect
Are you content sitting in a traffic jam or driving on autopilot?
Do you know where you’re going?
Are your decisions moving you closer to that destination?
You don’t need to have all the answers today.
Life is a journey, and the road is yours to navigate—with GPS (God), of course. Because let’s be honest, we’re not going anywhere without Him. 😉🙏🏽
